Drummer and composer Cameron Hicks is a promising young musician based out of Los
Angeles. Originally from Denver, Cameron began to study drums at the age of eight. In
2002 he began attending the Denver School of the Arts (DSA) where he majored in music.
During his time at DSA, Cameron was part of the top performing groups including the award
winning Jazz Workshop Orchestra, The Wind Ensemble, and The Orchestra. While he
maintained a busy performance schedule at school, he was also involved in different
educational programs such as Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts (CCJA) and The City
Wide Jazz Combo. Cameron also kept busy working as a professional musician, both as a
group leader and player. Cameron has played with many great artists such as Larry
Koonse, David Roitstein, Darek Oleszkiewicz, Vinny Golia, Greg Gisbert, Pat Bianchi,
Dominic Lalli, Jeff Jenkins, Eric Gunnison, Mark Simon, Lannie Garrett, Richard Giddens,
Brian Wilson, and Sam Yulsman among others. He has won many awards from various jazz
festivals, music camps, and competitions including being selected as a member of the CCJA
Jazz Arts Messengers to perform at the 2008 International Association for Jazz Education
conference in Toronto, Canada. He was also one of three drummers called back to audition
for the Brubeck Institute in 2008. He is currently studying at The California Institute
of the Arts with Joe LaBarbera, Aaron Serfaty, David Roitstein, Charlie Haden, Larry
Koonse, Darek Oleszkiewicz and Vinny Golia to name a few. Truly a masterful player
beyond his years, Cameron Hicks has a promising music career ahead of him.
