This week's Speakeasy (Wednesday, July 30, 9 p.m.) will feature the Denver
Slam Team from the Mercury Cafe. These talented performers are warming up
for the National Poetry Slam, which takes place in just two weeks in
Madison, Wisconsin.
Two years ago, the Mercury Cafe team won the National Poetry Slam, beating
out teams from coast to coast. We'll be pulling for them to bring the title
home to Denver again this year.
Come hear these poets strut their stuff and rock the mike as they "tune up"
for the National Poetry Slam. As always, the Speakeasy Band will provide
live jazz accompaniment. There will also be a short Open Mike for anyone who
wants to read their poetry.
9pm :: Anyone with a flair for words is invited to sign up for the weekly Open Mike and take the stage. A trio of jazz musicians will improvise music to accompany each poem. The microphone is open to everyone—poets, spoken-word performers, hip-hop artists, and anyone else who has something to say and an artful way of saying it. The event will be hosted by noted poet Dan Robinson :: $5
